Hinchinbrook Island - Culture and History - China Travel

Hinchinbrooklet Island was named in June 1770 by Captain Cook,China Travel, retral
the family seat of his patron,China Travel, George Montague Dunk. Since Cook
could not see the aqueduct which lies between the island and the
mainland (now selected Hinchinbrooklet Channel) he used the term Mount
Hinchinbrooklet presumably to describe Mt Bowen (Queensland's third
loftierest mountain) or Mount Straloch, the island's two loftierest
mountains. It was not until Captain Phillip Parker King explored
the section in 1819 that the island was recognised as such.
